Mohamed Abdel-Aziz Shaker

Junior Vulnerability Analyst & Penetration Tester

I help teams find and prioritize security weaknesses before attackers do, by pairing hands-on attack simulation with detection engineering.

About

I'm a Computer Systems Engineering student at Shoubra Faculty of Engineering, Benha University, focused on offensive and defensive security. My coursework spans network security, block cipher analysis, logic programming and systems analysis. I enjoy building things I can actually break and understanding why, which is how I ended up with a SIEM-backed SOC lab, a cipher-mode attack lab, and detections tested against simulated adversary techniques.

Because I've built detections as well as studied attacks, I think about findings from both sides: how an issue is exploited, and how a defender would notice it. My goal is an entry-level Vulnerability Analyst or Penetration Tester role where I can keep growing on real engagements.

Work Experience

MCIT Summer Internship Program 2025

Ministry of Communications and Information Technology · Central Department of Information Systems and Digital Transformation · Jul–Aug 2025

Completed a four-week program covering infrastructure, systems, applications and cybersecurity fundamentals.

Offered Services

Vulnerability Assessment

Identify, rate and prioritize weaknesses in systems and applications, with clear remediation guidance.

Penetration Testing Support

Assist with scoped testing and evidence-based reporting mapped to MITRE ATT&CK.

Detection & Log Analysis

Build and test SIEM detection rules (KQL, Sigma) against simulated attacks.

Security Reporting

Technical write-ups that developers and managers can both act on.

Projects

Building a SOC Home Lab

GDG On Campus graduation project · team of 3 · Benha University
Challenge

Build a realistic monitoring environment to practice detecting attacker behavior end to end.

What I did
  • Deployed an ELK SIEM (Elasticsearch, Kibana, Fleet Server, Filebeat) with TLS certificates configured.
  • Collected endpoint telemetry with Winlogbeat, Packetbeat and Sysmon.
  • Wrote a custom KQL rule for MITRE ATT&CK T1547.001 (registry Run Key persistence) covering HKLM and HKU paths.
  • Compared Sigma, YARA and KQL rule formats, and Atomic Red Team vs. MITRE Caldera for emulation.
Outcome

Validated detections with Atomic Red Team simulations and documented the build in a technical report.

Challenge

Make the security differences between block cipher modes visible and testable.

What I did

Built a visualizer and attack lab for block cipher modes, and produced a formatted technical report with Node.js.
